Every year, there are more than 6000 participants and over 600 educational sessions at ACTFL. It is a great professional growth opportunity. NCJLT is a co-sponsor of ACTFL. We will sponsor educational sessions, Awards Luncheon, Japan Pavilion, and a Networking Reception. We will ask local affiliate to send in their annual reports with some pictures for NCJLT Luncheon later this year. Please save some pictures for the report.

ACTFL 2009 will be held from Friday, November 20 to Sunday, November 22 at San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California. If you haven’t registered for the ACTFL, it is not too late. If you register by October 14th, it’s $195 for NCJLT members. If you are a new teacher and a NCJLT member, it’s only $150.

Free time has been alotted for exhibit hall visit. Please make sure to visit the Japan Pavilion for gathering information about trip to Japan, educational materials, and resources, and for great shopping! We will have a couple of performance again.

  • NCJLT Luncheon NCJLT is happy to announce that NCJLT Awards Luncheon will be held again this year. It will be Saturday, November 21 from 11:15AM to 12:45PM. Please join us to celebrate our fellow educators and communicate with other Japanese teachers. The luncheon costs $40 if you register by October 14, after that it will be $47. When you register for the ACTFL, don’t forget to check the NCJLT Awards Luncheon!

  • NCJLT Special Sessions The general sessions will include 4 NCJLT special sessions. One of them is a session called "What We Have Accomplished: Advancements in Japanese Language Education" presented by Hiroko Kataokasensei of California State University Long Beach. As you may know, we have discussed about the current problems about Japanese Language Education in the U.S. and talked about how to revitalize Japanese Programs. We think it is important to know the history of Japanese Language Education in the U.S. in order to make an action plan for the future.

  • NCJLT General Meeting: We usually have NCJLT General Meeting right after the luncheon, however, because of the schedule change, we will have the NCJLT General Meeting at 4:15PM to 5:15PM. Please note the change. Right after the meeting, NCJLT special session 2:a panel discussion called “Current and future of Japanese Education” will be held. We would love to hear your opinions! A Networking Reception will be following the session. It is a great place to network with other teachers in a casual way.
