The Japanese National Honor
Society (JNHS) recognizes and encourages scholastic achievement
and excellent in Japanese study, to unite with teachers
and administrators in developing and maintaining high
standards of Japanese language education, and to promote
altruistic conduct through various activities. The JNHS
sponsor schools are recognized and announced in Oshirase
and JNHS students receive certificates of excellence and
letters of appreciation from JNHS Director, NCJLT.
The Japanese National Honor Society is accepting letters
from schools interested in starting a charter. The purpose
of this society is to promote interest in Japanese language
study and recognize high achievement of Japanese language
students of secondary schools. The students must be in
the first term of their second year of Japanese with a
3.0 overall G.P.A. and a 3.5 G.P.A. in Japanese in order
to be eligible for recognition.
To start a charter, the sponsor must be a member of the
National Council of Japanese Language Teachers. The sponsor
then needs to send a letter on school stationery along
with the $7.50 charter fee made payable to N.C.J.L.T.
together with a list eligible students. The student fee
of $4.50 per student should be included with the charter
request letter. Once a charter has been started, a packet
including the constitution of the society, the guidelines
for the initiation ceremony and certificates will be sent
to the school.
All existing J.N.H.S. groups are required to recharter.
A $5.00 recharter fee together with the attached form
will be due by the deadline of the JNHS application each
year.
Since 2004, we have been offering graduation cords in
addtion to pins. Please refer to the application forms
