Do you know colleagues who haven't renewed their NCJLT membership? If so, please let them know that it's not too late to renew now and urge them to do so. They missed the nengajo contest and perhaps the first Oshirase, but there are many other privileges that our members enjoy! Here are just a few:

  • Access to the (NEW!) NCJLT Web Forum (http://www.webjam.com/ncjlt) which includes a database of 100% usuable images (1,250+), videos(60+), teaching ideas, and much much more, not to mention a discussion forum which all members can use to exchange opinions, teaching ideas, questions, and other information.
  • Oshirase Newsletter with national and regional Japanese language field news, upcoming events, special awards, and job postings. There are four digital issues, and two print issues.
  • Active promotion of the teaching and learning of Japanese language K-16 in the United States.
  • Cooperation with our partner organization, the Association of Teachers of Japanese(ATJ) to hold K-16 discussions on national standards, articulation and other current issues.
  • Support and creation of professional development opportunities for Japanese language teachers.
  • Administration of the Japanese National Honor Society for secondary students.
  • A yearly 'Nengajou' and contest for students at all levels and a Yonkoma Manga contest.
  • Organization and sponsorship of the NCJLT portion of the yearly ACTFL conference. In 2001 there were 25 NCJLT-sponsored sessions.
  • Offering of special awards, travel grants and recognition for teachers and learners of Japanese, such as a national teachers' award and a scholarship for students.

Please note that you CANNOT apply for or renew your membership online. You have to download the necessary form(s), type in the information, and send it/them by U.S. mail along with your check payable to NCJLT. We have to take renewals this way because the form and the check must arrive at the office at the same time in order to avoid confusion and assure proper credit to each member's account. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

There are two ways to join NCJLT. The first is to join through an affiliate organization (each affiliate is responsible for payment of $15 per member). The second is to join as an individual. Use . The membership year is from January 1 to December 31. (Revised 9/20/03)

Payment is by December 15 to receive all the benefits of membership, which include: One full year of Oshirase (4 issues) and participation at the ACTFL Conference as an NCJLT member. If payment and membership information is received by the affiliate, individual, or organization, after December 15th, you will be ineligible to participate in the Nengajo Contest and will not receive the January issue of Oshirase in print. You may request to have it sent digitally to you.
