Dear Colleagues:

It has been my pleasure to organize the NCJLT Nengajyo Contest again for the year 2004. As a teacher of both Japanese and art, seeing all of the cards as they came in and being able to see the more than 630 of them at the same time has been fantastic! What a privilege it has been to see the best of the Nengajyo designed and created by Japanese language students across the United States. How exciting to be able to observe the students' interpretation of this Japanese tradition expressed through their artwork.

This year Japanese nationals and art and foreign language teachers in my district judged 637 cards submitted from 96 schools nationwide. This was a record number of cards. I am attaching the address of the students to where the gift certificates need to go. Thanks again for your wonderful support of this program, it is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,
Michael L. Kluemper
NCJLT Nengajyo Director
